Claddagh???

What’s in a name…

Why “Claddagh Cottage”? We get this question a lot and we think the story behind the name is always worth telling! We (the owners) met in Ireland on a college trip and have always felt connected to the Emerald Isle. In fact, we recently took our teenagers to Ireland to share in the culture, the beauty, and the welcoming nature of the Irish people. We have ancestors from Ireland on my wife’s side of the family as well and love all things Irish!

On another note, the word “claddagh” comes from the Gaelic word Cladach which means “shore”. While most people will also recognize the famous Claddagh rings worn by many as promise, engagement, or wedding rings featuring two hands holding a crowned heart representing loyalty, friendship, and love.

We hope you’ll enjoy a pint of Guinness by the pool, dance an Irish jig on the sand, and sing an Irish folksong above the waves!

May your wary feet fall upon the softest of sands.
May the salty air give you space to breathe,
May the morning sun awaken your soul
And the pearl of night illuminate the path before you.
And until we meet again,
May the patient ocean kiss the shore and lap against her sands.
